As much as I love to see the world and adventure to new places, I also like to make an effort to explore my home. Melbourne is a great city and I love wandering around town, taking in the sights and people watching. I recently spent a day as a 'tourist' in my own city and it was actually incredibly fascinating. It was nice to not be going anywhere in particular and take time to enjoy the city and all that it has to offer. I hope you enjoy. A x On this day out, wandering through Melbourne as a "tourist", I arrived at Flinders Street Station (the main metropolitan station) and after visiting the NGV, slowly made my way north, exploring and taking my time to really look around. I go through this station everyday on my way to University but it's not often I take the time to appreciate the heritage and beauty of the facade which is a classic Melbourne icon. Degraves Street is only a minute walk from Flinders Street Station and I love how chaotic it is! You could always make your way through the city up one of the main streets but I much prefer the vibrant laneways and historic arcades. It's a more 'zig-zag' route, but during the cooler days especially it's better to be inside and I really love taking the time to admire the classic architecture. It's a little bit out of the way, and I discovered it by accident, but the dome at 333 Collins Street is a hidden treasure! And I hear there is a fabulous Christmas display here later in the year which I can't wait to check it out when the season comes. Whilst this building may now be a H&M store, in was once the Melbourne General Post Office and whilst I love the facade, it's the arches in the walkway that I think are truly beautiful. And in true Melbourne fashion, it's home to a small coffee shop and cafe. Melbourne Central also has a station which I often come through, as well as being a major shopping centre, but I rarely take the time to look up and admire the shot tower and glass cone so I took the time on my little adventure. The Victorian State Library's Latrobe reading room is very picturesque but it's the quite and calm I love here. Since visiting though, I've learnt they have several gallery's and a couple lesser known, but still stunning rotundas, so I plan on visiting again very soon. I know very little about the Melbourne Public Baths but this red brick building with contrasting white trim is hard to miss when walking up Swanson street. And this little discovery made me even happier I was out and about on a cold yet sunny day, wandering through Melbourne. I absolutely love the Royal Exhibition Building and it's surrounding gardens. And whilst enjoying it and taking a few photos, a tourists walking group passed by so I even learnt a little bit of Melbourne history which was a nice surprise before ending my exploration for the day.
